Humanity is grounded by stories, whether it’s about deep archetypal conflicts or the tension of human emotion. What I find most captivating is when the visual arts accurately convey something universal within everyone, a fusion of meaning and emotion. It’s a mistake to look at art and art history from a purely materialistic viewpoint; studying art is to study human consciousness. To capture one fleeting moment in time with a pencil on paper is a grasp at making sense of the universe.
